history
The district is built on a “pass” between the hills of Fourvière and Saint-Irénée . Here is the access to the western plateau of Lyon.
During the Roman era the place was still a field; however, an arena ( circus ) (with turf steps) and mausoleums have already been built here.
In the Middle Ages, the place was between the ramparts of Lyon and that of the chapter of Saint-Irénée, the local baronate . In the place stood the church of Saint-Just , Church of the Holy Sepulcher of St. Justus and other early bishops of Lyon, with whom some popes (among them Celestine V ) also lived.
Today the Saint-Just district is a residential area. Of course you can still visit the remains of the (destroyed) church of Saint-Just and the Church of the Maccabees . The pupils of the Lycée Saint-Just , the Collège Jean-Moulin and the CPE Lyon are part of the appearance of the district.
