Saint-Sébastien - Froissart is an underground station on line 8 of the Paris Métro on the eastern edge of the Marais district .
location
The station is located on the border of the Quartiers des Enfants-Rouges and the Archives in the 3rd arrondissement with the Quartier Saint-Ambroise in the 11th arrondissement of Paris . It is located alongside the Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire - Boulevard Beaumarchais between Rue Froissart and Rue Saint-Sébastien.
Surname
It is named after the nearby streets Rue Saint-Sébastien and Rue Froissart. Born in Narbonne in 250 , Sébastien was executed in Rome around 288 and is considered a martyr in the Christian churches .
The station was given the addition of “Froissart” in 1933. Jean Froissart (approx. 1337–1405) was a poet and chronicler. His main work is a comprehensive chronicle of the first half of the Hundred Years' War .
History and description
The station was put into operation on May 5, 1931, when the section from Richelieu - Drouot to Porte de Charenton of line 8 was opened at the beginning of the colonial exhibition in the Bois de Vincennes . Under an elliptical, white-tiled vaulted ceiling, it has side platforms on two parallel tracks. To accommodate seven-car trains, it was built with a length of 105 m. There is a simple track change south of the station .
The two entrances are on both sides of the Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire at the level of the rue Froissart that flows into it. They are each marked by a candelabra designed by Adolphe Dervaux in the Art Deco style .
vehicles
During the colonial exhibition, seven-car trains of the Sprague-Thomson design ran at the station ; later the train lengths were shortened to five cars. From 1975 onwards, MF 67 trains came on line 8, which were replaced by the MF 77 series from 1980 .
Remarks
- ↑ The Marais is not a district according to the Paris administrative structure
- ↑ Because the stations of line 8 to the west of Richelieu - Drouot were initially only 75 m long, the last two wagons of a train continued to run empty from there, as they did not reach the edge of the platform
