Saint-Symphorien (Tours)
Saint-Symphorien is a district of the city of Tours in the Indre-et-Loire department in the Center-Val de Loire region in France .
history
During the French Wars of Religion , the area of what would later become Saint-Symphorien was the scene of a battle between the troops of Duke Charles de Mayenne and those of Henry III. and Henry of Navarre .
The place arose as a parish of a church consecrated to St. Symphorianus of Autun in front of the walls of the city of Tours and was raised to a community ( commune ) in 1790 .
Around 1960 began the urbanization of the until then rural community, in the course of which Saint-Symphorien, which then had 11,437 inhabitants, was incorporated into the city of Tours in 1962.
