The arch dam was built from 1971 to 1974. The village of Les Salles-sur-Verdon was rebuilt 400 meters from its original location for the reservoir . The dam, which is a maximum of 95 m high, is 133 m long with a wall volume of 55,000 .

The dam, which was built south of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon between limestone cliffs and the completion of the power plant and the associated creation of the reservoir, made it possible to generate electricity (142 million kWh per year) through hydropower to supply the area with water.
