Tsuruga jumped at the Four Hills Tournament from 1977/78 . In his first competition on December 30th, 1977 in Oberstdorf , he achieved a place in the top ten with 9th place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1978 , Tsuruga reached 19th place on the normal hill and 45th place on the large hill. In 1979 Tsuruga was part of the roster for the newly created Ski Jumping World Cup . In his first World Cup on December 30, 1979, he reached 63rd place in Oberstdorf. Tsuruga was also unsuccessful in the other three jumping competitions of the 1979/80 Four Hills Tournament . In his first competition after the tour in his home town of Sapporo , he reached 6th place in the first competition and 4th place in the second competition, the highest individual placement in a World Cup competition. In the following season he appeared again unsuccessfully in the Four Hills Tournament . Since he could no longer achieve any successes on the tour and only ended up in the rearmost places, he subsequently ended his active ski jumping career.
