Sakala (ex- HMS Inverness ) is a minehunter of the Estonian Navy . The Sakala is the second of a total of three modernized boats of the Sandown class that the Estonian naval forces have acquired from the Royal Navy .
history
HMS Inverness was built in the UK at Vosper Thornycroft Shipyard , the second of five boats in the first Sandown class construction lot . It was launched on February 27, 1990 and entered service a year later on January 24, 1991. Against the background of the changed situation at the beginning of the 21st century, the Inverness and two of her sister ships, Sandown and Bridport , were decommissioned and sold to the Estonian Navy.
From this the boat was reactivated as Sakala and assigned to the mine defense division ( Miinilaevade Divisjon ). The current name of the ship ( Sakala ) comes from the ancient county of Sakala, which is now known as Viljandimaa , but is often called Sakalamaa .

The rose indicates the capital of Sakalamaa Viljandi . The swords represent Sakala's important role in the ancient Estonian struggle for freedom and the fighting spirit, as silver stands for loyalty. The coat of arms was designed by Priit Herod. The ship's motto in Latin is In nomine libertatis - in German “In the name of freedom”.
