Salih ibn Fawzan ibn 'Abdullah al-Fawzan ( Arabic صالح بن فوزان بن عبد الله الفوزان, DMG Ṣāliḥ b. Fauzān b. ʿAbd Allaah al-Fauzān ; * 1933 in Saudi Arabia ) is an Islamic scholar in Saudi Arabia. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and a leading advocate of Wahhabism . The Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies him as a pioneer of Islamist extremism and jihadism .

education

Al-Fawzan was born in 1933. His family comes from al-Shamasiyya in al-Qasim province . His father died when he was a child and he was raised by his family. He studied the Koran, basic reading and writing under the guidance of the Imam Qari Area, Shaykh Sulaiman ibn Hammud Thallal Ath, who later became a judge in Dariyyah in Qasim Province .

He then studied at a state Koran school that had opened in 1948. He finished his studies at Faishaliyyah School in Buraidah in 1950 and was called to teach children there. He continued his studies at the Buraidah Institute of Education when it opened in 1952 and graduated in 1956. He then studied at the Faculty of Sharia at the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh and graduated in 1960. He then completed his master’s degree and a doctorate in Islamic law ( Fiqh ).

His studies with a number of Salafi Islamic scholars such as Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz and Muhammad al-Amin al-Shanqiti (died 1972) were formative for al-Fawzan . His teachers also included Abdullah bin Humaid, Afifi Abdurrazaq, Salih bin Abd al-Sukayti, Salih bin Ibrahim al-Bulayhi, Muhammad ibn Fadhilatus Subayyil, Abdullah bin Salih al-Khulaifi, Ibrahim bin Abdul-Muhsin al-Obeid, Hamud Ibn Uqla Ash-Shu'aybi and Salih ibn Ali an-Naashir.

Offices

After studying at the Sharia Faculty, he was appointed lecturer at the Riyadh Institute of Education, after which he moved to the Faculty of Islamic Teaching. Finally he taught again at a college in the Usul ud-Din faculty. Al-Fawzan is a member of the Standing Committee for Legal Issues , as well as in the influential “High Council of Islamic Scholars” and in other institutions.

Positions

One of the reasons why al-Fawzan's religious positions are so significant is that they are incorporated into teaching in Saudi Arabia and in Saudi schools abroad through the textbooks for which he is responsible. Saudi officials have said several times that the curriculum will be changed, but al-Fawzan's textbooks will continue to be used. From his textbook on Tawheed , a commentary on the “Book of Monotheism ” by Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab , it emerges that al-Fawzan calls the majority of Muslims polytheists . Therefore, they could be expropriated and killed by “true Muslims”.

Liberal Muslims declared al-Fawzan in a fatwa to apostates in July 2007 : “To call yourself a liberal Muslim is a contradiction in terms (...) one should repent of such thoughts before God in order to be a real Muslim (.. .) He who wants freedom with laws that are made by man alone rebels against the law of God. ”In a fatwa, al-Fawzan declared that Muslims who do not pray should not be employed as workers.

According to Al-Fawzan, it is impossible to have friendly relations with people of different faiths, since as a Muslim one is obliged to hate people of different faiths. It would be legal to accept gifts from them, but not to congratulate them on a festive occasion.

Regarding slavery , al-Fawzan took the position "Slavery is part of Islam" and "Slavery is part of jihad, and jihad will last as long as there is Islam" on tape .

In 2008, he told Al Madina newspaper that the "witches" who read horoscopes on Arab satellite television deserve the death penalty for this crime. The callers should also no longer receive an Islamic funeral after their death.

In July 2011, al-Fawzan issued a fatwa against plans by the Saudi government to limit child marriages through a minimum age . According to Al-Fawzan, fathers have the right to bring their daughters into marriage at any age, even if they are still in the cradle . The husbands should only become intimate with them when the girls can bear their body weight.

Human Rights Watch mentions hate speech by Saleh al-Fawzan against Shiites and Rāfida , whom he refers to as "brothers of Satan " and specifically speaks of Shiites as "infidels" who "lie about God, his prophet and the Muslim consensus".
