Company history

Early years as a laundry (1916–1960)

In 1916 Magdalena Wittmann bought a laundry in Vienna's Salesianergasse. After marrying Josef Krautschneider in 1928, they jointly acquire the “First Viennese Washing and Ironing Facility” in Vienna's fourth district and move the location. As a reminder of the first deal, the company is called “Salesians”. In 1948 the Roseggergasse factory in Vienna-Ottakring is bought, and in 1952 the Linzer Strasse factory in Vienna-Penzing. In 1960 there were already 75 Salesianer branches and transfer points in and around Vienna. As Salesianer continues to grow, the company headquarters has been located in the 22nd district, Rautenweg, since 2019.

Conversion to a comprehensive textile rental service provider (1962–1990)

The son of the founding couple, Hans Krautschneider, took over the management in 1962. He imported the idea for the textile rental service from the USA. The company continues to grow and acquires the Löw laundry in Wiener Neustadt. The customer structure is changing from private to major customers. In 1970, Hans Krautschneider founded the Salesianer Miettex company. It supplies companies across Austria with all types of rental linen, washroom hygiene products and mats. After the death of Hans Krautschneider in 1985, his wife Christine Krautschneider took over the management until she moved to the supervisory board in 2010.

In 1988 the “SterilDienst” was developed, which supplies health care facilities with sterile surgical drapes and surgical gowns, and in 1989 the Adamer & Kneissl laundry in Kramsach, Tyrol, was bought. This marked the beginning of Austria-wide expansion.

A residential complex is to be built here.

Environmental protection and sustainability

Salesianer Miettex was able to achieve significant ecological improvements through extensive investments in technical modernization and the use of optimized washing processes. From 2013 to 2015 Salesianer Miettex was able to reduce the energy consumption per kilogram of laundry by 16.4 percent, the water consumption per kilogram of laundry by 10.3 percent and the use of active washing substances per ton of laundry by 8.5 percent. Wiener Neustadt was the first industrial laundry in Austria to be certified according to the international guideline ISO 50001: 2011 energy management systems. Salesianer Miettex has been a project partner of the klimaaktiv initiative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management since 2012 . The companies Vienna 14 and Vienna 22, Grödig, Leogang, Arnoldstein, Kramsach and Inzing were the first laundries in Austria to receive the Austrian Ecolabel . As a result, the other Austrian companies will also go through the certification process.

Hygiene guarantee

The company washes according to strict hygiene criteria based on the criteria for hospital linen. The company gives its customers a hygiene guarantee. This ensures that every item of laundry is cleaned using standardized, disinfecting washing processes. This achieves a germ reduction by at least a factor of one hundred thousand. University institutes and independent hygiene institutes from Austria and Germany check the processes at least once a year and confirm this with appropriate reports.
