Salim Joubran ( Arabic سليم جبران, DMG Salīm Ǧubrān ; Hebrew סלים ג'ובראן; * August 4, 1947 in Haifa ) is a former judge at the Supreme Court of Israel . He is the first judge of Arab origin who was permanently appointed to the court. Before that, only Abd-er-Rahman Zoabi was temporarily active there as a judge of Arab origin .

Life

The Maronite Joubran graduated from the Terra Sancta School in Chan al-Ifranǧ in 1963 (خان الإفرنج) in Akko , before going to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , which he graduated from there in 1968. He initially practiced as a lawyer from 1970 to 1982, but then became a judge at the Haifa Magistrate Court . Eleven years later, he was promoted to judge at the Haifa District Court, where he was to work for another ten years, until in 2003 he was initially only appointed as a temporary member of the Supreme Court. In May 2004 he was appointed permanently. Joubran's tenure at the Supreme Court ended in August 2017 when he turned 70.
