Salomon Düsseldorf

Salomon Düsseldorf (Jewish name Salomon Gottschalk [Levi] or Löb Hannover ; * around 1665 in Düsseldorf , † April 14, 1745 in Hanover ) was a German court banker of Jewish origin. He was the founder of the synagogue in Hanover.

Life

Salomon Düsseldorf came from one of the most respected families, not only in Hanover, but in all of Northern Germany. Düsseldorf's family was a branch of the Goldschmidt family from Frankfurt .

After the residence was founded in 1636, he came to Hanover. He was the most respected man from Düsseldorf's Judengasse. In 1680 he moved to Hanover. There he became a community elder and in 1719 court jeweler.

The first synagogue was set up in his house in Calenberger Neustadt in 1688. According to Glückel Hameln tradition, it was so small that the main room, which was only reserved for men, could only be accessed through the women's room.

Salomon Düsseldorf was married to his cousin Blümchen Gans († February 1, 1736, Oberstrasse cemetery, grave no. 221), daughter of Israel Joseph Natan Gans (born April 30, 1689, Oberstrasse cemetery, grave no. 172) and the Spinze Goldzieher († † December 3, 1728, Oberstrasse cemetery, grave no. 173), daughter of Moses Aron Goldzieher from Hamburg.

His mother Gelle Gans also came from the large Gans merchant family in Minden. They are the daughter or granddaughter of Salman Gans (* around 1610 in Minden, † April 6, 1654 in Hanover) and Jente Goldschmidt from Hameln (* around 1628 in Hameln, † July 25, 1695 in Hanover). His children were:
