Salomon Hirzel (General, 1672)

Salomon Hirzel (* 1672 ; † 1755 ), Lord of Wülflingen , imperial baron, infantry general in the service of Holland, colonel of the Swiss regiment of his name, and councilor of the Zurich Grand Council.

Life

Hirzel was born in 1672 to Jean-Gaspard Hirzel from Kefikon and Anne Marguerite Lochman. He married Anne-Marguerite Meyss on December 8, 1713 and died in 1755.

service

He entered the service of Savoy as a cadet of the French Oberkan company in 1692: a sign of this troupe, when his brother got it, he was made lieutenant in 1693 and first lieutenant on October 5th of the same year, due to a good deed, which he carried out the day before at the Battle of Marsalle. In 1694 he founded a company for the Sacconay regiment, which he followed in the battle and siege of Casal, in the battle of Alexandria and in the capture of Wallonia . He was sent to winter quarters in Swabia and found himself when the Prince of Baden took Evrenburg Castle. In 1701 he was appointed mayor of the new Albemarle regiment. Through his achievements in the battle of Ekeren (today part of Antwerp ) he earned the lieutenant colonel in 1703, was sent hostage to take Soufleuven, and found himself in the sieges of Brussels , Ghent , Antwerp and Ostend in 1706 & 1707 . He coincided with fame at the Battle of Oudenaarde ( Battle ) on July 11, 1708, and at the Battle of Veenendaal on September 28: in this last matter he commanded the Albemarle Regiment, with which he was able to withstand two attacks , repulsed the enemy and gave the infantry time to follow, and eventually defeat the French. The following year he received the colonel. Shortly afterwards he became lieutenant colonel of the regiment, colonel commander in 1718, alderman in the Grand Council in 1721, colonel holder of the regiment in 1725, brigadier in 1727, imperial baron in 1735, general in 1736, lieutenant general in 1740 , General of the Infantry December 30, 1747.
