The Salzsteigjoch is 1733 m above sea level. A. high pass in the Dead Mountains on the border of the Austrian federal states of Upper Austria in the north and Styria in the south. It is a transition from Tauplitz to Hinterstoder . The Salzsteigjoch lies along a tectonic fault and separates the Prielgruppe from the Warscheneckgruppe in the Dead Mountains. It is located on the historic Salzsteig, over which salt was transported from Altaussee to the Stodertal. Since this salt from Styria was cheaper than the Upper Austrian salt from Bad Ischl or Ebensee , there was intensive smuggling over the mountains.

Marked climbs:
- Path 209 from Baumschlagerreith (Stodertal) to Tauplitzalm . This is a variant of the Salzsteigweg , an Austrian long-distance hiking trail , the main route of which leads over the Türkenkarscharte .
