Sam Bith

Sam Bith (* 1933 ?; † February 15, 2008 ) was a Cambodian military leader, guerrilla leader and convicted murderer from the ranks of the Khmer Rouge . Bith was the former deputy military chief of the Khmer Rouge, Ta Mok .

On July 26, 1994, Bith and a group of rebels kidnapped three Western tourists, including David Wilson from Australia, Mark Slater from Britain and Jean-Michel Braquet from France. At least ten Cambodians were killed in the attack. The three tourists and some Cambodians were held captive in the province of Kampot under miserable conditions ; later the three western hostages were murdered. Sam Bith was sentenced to life in prison in 2002 for the kidnapping and murder.
