Sam White

Sam White (born October 16, 1906 in Chicago , Illinois , † August 5, 2006 in Encino , California ) was an American film director and television and film producer .

The brother of producer Jules White and actor Jack White grew up as a child of Austro-Hungarian immigrants. His career as a director began in the 1930s, when he was responsible for the musical sequences of numerous films. He worked with Fred Astaire , Ginger Rogers and Irene Dunne ( Roberta ), Betty Grable and Buddy Rogers ( Old Man Rhythm ) and Ann Sothern ( Top of the Town and Hooray for Love ). In addition, many short works were created under his direction. After making instruction films for the American Army during World War II, White produced and / or directed works as diverse as Ann Miller's Reveille with Beverly , the horror film The Return of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi , the program films People Are Funny , The Girl in the Case , After Midnight with Boston Blackie , Louisiana Hayride or the exotic Tahiti Nights with Jinx Falkenberg .

In 2003, a memorial wall was dedicated to White and his brothers in the Motion Picture and Television Home . The producer and director died shortly before his 100th birthday.

White married Claretta Ellis, a dancer who was under contract with many film studios. They were married for 63 years and had two daughters.
