Jules White
Jules White (birth name: Julius Weiss * 17th September 1900 in Budapest ; † 30th April 1985 in Van Nuys , Los Angeles , California ) was a from Hungary originating American film producer , film director , screenwriter and actor .
biography
White came from a Hungarian family who entered the Hollywood film industry after immigrating to the United States . He was not only the younger brother of film director Jack White , brother-in-law of actress Pauline Starke and older brother of director Sam White , but also the father of film editor Harold White .
In the course of his own career in the film industry he was not only a producer of almost 370 Comedy - short films , but it also resulted in many of these films directed as in 1924 at Goat Getters . He also wrote the script for some of these films and also appeared as an actor or narrator.
White was nominated four times for the Oscar for best short film , at the 1934 Academy Awards for Men in Black , 1936 for Oh, My Nerves (1935), 1946 for The Jury Goes Round 'n' Round (1945) and most recently at the Academy Awards 1947 for Hiss and Yell (1946), the last two nominations being in the subcategory “Two-reel”, ie for films made up of two film roles (“Reels”) with a total length of no more than 20 to 24 minutes.
He achieved widespread fame, however, in particular as a director and producer of films by the comedian troupe The Three Stooges around the brothers Moe , Shemp and Curly Howard and other changing actors. Well-known films from this series were You Nazty Spy! (1940), In the Sweet Pie and Pie (1941), Sing a Song of Six Pants (1947) and Malice in the Palace (1949).
Jules White, who died of complications from Alzheimer's disease , received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1559 Vine Street for his services to the Hollywood film industry .
