Shemp Howard
Shemp Howard (real name: Samuel Horwitz ; born March 4, 1895 in Brooklyn , New York City , † November 22, 1955 in Hollywood , California ) was an American comedian and actor .
Life
Shemp was born the third son of Jennie Mary (1870-1939) and Solomon Nathan Horwitz (1872-1943). His brothers were Irving (1891-1939), Benjamin Jacob (1893-1976), Moe (1897-1975) and Curly (1903-1952).
He was temporarily a member of the comedian troupe The Three Stooges . After his departure, his brother Curly joined the group. After Curly suffered a severe stroke in 1946 and was never able to work as Stooge afterwards, Shemp returned to his old place in the trio. He stayed with the Stooges until his own death in 1955. He was buried in the Home of Peace Memorial Park in East Los Angeles.
