The IKCO Samand is a car model from the Iranian manufacturer Iran Khodro based on the Peugeot 405 . Other names for it are Peykan X7 , New Peykan or Volksautomobil . Samand is Persian and describes a particularly fast breed of horse . The model is known under different model names abroad. The model is sold in Venezuela under the name Venirauto Centauro , in Azerbaijan Azsamand Aziz , in Senegal SenIran Samand LX and SenIran Samand Mandori , in Syria Siamco Sham and in Belarus as Samand TU5 .

development

The development of the Samand by Iranian and international engineers began in 1996, but the production for test purposes only in 2000. In 2002, Iran Khodro set up a production line for the Samand, which was officially opened by the then President Chatami .

In terms of its technical properties, it is quite comparable to European cars and has all the features of a modern automobile, such as ABS and electric windows. This car is popular in Iran; production can barely satisfy demand. In addition, there is now a longer wheelbase version of the Samand, the Samand Sarir.

The original Samand is powered by a Peugeot engine. This was replaced by the first Iranian “National Motor” or “avvalin motor-e melli-e-Iran”. Since March 2008, compressed natural gas (CNG ) operation with the so-called EF7 has also been offered as an option.
