Iran Khodro (IKCO) ( Persian ایران خودرو) is the largest automobile manufacturer in Iran . Persian خودرو( Chodro ) means car in German.

IKCO is a state-run company that was founded on August 18, 1962 in Tehran by Ahmad and Mahmoud Khayami. Before the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the company was known as Iran National . Iran Khodro had the greatest success so far in the course of its more than 40-year company history with the Paykan mid-range car . Its production ended in May 2005.

Today Iran Khodro produces various vehicles, including licensed and in-house developments:

  • Samand (in the variants SE , LX , ELX , Soren and Sarir )
  • Dena (planned as the successor to Samand from 2012)
  • Peugeot 206 and 206 SD (notchback variant)
  • Runna (based on the Peugeot 206; a hybrid car version of this is in preparation)
  • Peugeot 207 (Peugeot 206+)
  • Peugeot 405 and the derived Peugeot Roa (with rear-wheel drive)
  • Peugeot Pars (based on the Peugeot 405)
  • Suzuki Grand Vitara
  • Tondar 90 (based on the Dacia Logan )
  • Bardo (pick-up based on the previous Paykan / Hillman Hunter )

Iran Khodro also produces trucks under license with various subsidiaries, for example various trucks and buses from Mercedes-Benz ( Actros and Sprinter ), Hyundai (Mighty and Chorus models) and MAN .

Engines

IKCO EF7 dual-fuel four-cylinder engine

The IKCO EF engines are four-cylinder engines. The EF7 series was jointly developed by the Iran Khodro Powertrain Company (IPCO) and the German company FEV Motorentechnik . IPCO is the powertrain manufacturer who designs and produces the engines for Iran Khodro vehicles.

For the Paykan model, the brand name was also Paykan (English Peykan ). In addition, Iran Khodro has been used since 1979 or 1984 .
