Samba de Janeiro is the debut single released in May 1997 by the German dance project Bellini , which delivered one of the summer hits of this year. The title was written and composed by Airto Moreira , Gottfried Engels and Ramon Zenker , the latter two also producing the Bellini version.

Authors and titles

The composition was originally written by Airto Moreira under the title Tombo In 7/4 . The authorship of Gottfried Engels and Ramon Zenker is rather questionable, especially since early productions by Airto Moreira in 1972 on the album Fingers and by Cal Tjader in 1973 on the album Tambu .

Music video

The video was shot in Hamburg, in the Karolinenpassage, where a carnival parade was staged especially for the recordings. Four dancers from Germany , Brazil , Indonesia and Thailand , as well as one dancer from Morocco were engaged as actors in order to achieve a multi-cultural effect.

The video was produced by the Hamburg-based film production company Chopstick Films , directed by Rainer Thieding .

success

The single sold 5 million copies worldwide and reached the top 10 of the most important international top lists in Europe, but could not rank first in any country. The title is still used today in soccer stadiums or carnival events to create a good mood in the audience. It was always played in the stadium at the 2008 European Football Championship as soon as a goal was scored. Gottlieb Wendehals covered the song in 1997 under the title Samba Ramba Zamba .
