Sami Torkki (born December 11, 1978 in Rauma ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for Linköpings HC and MODO Hockey in the Swedish Elitserien , among others, from 1996 to 2009 . His older brother Jari was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Sami Torkki began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Lukko Rauma , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1996/97 season . In his rookie year , the winger made an assist in nine games. However, he spent most of the season at UJK , for which he scored seven goals in 27 games in the second-rate I divisioona and gave nine assists. In the following years he became a regular at Lukko Rauma, where he started the 1998/99 season . After completing ten games, however, he joined his league rivals KalPa Kuopio . With his new team he had to accept relegation to the second division at the end of the season, after which he returned to Lukko Rauma.
In the second attempt, Torkki became a regular at Lukko Rauma and from 1999 to 2005 held a management position within the SM-liiga team. After his season with the most points, the 2004/05 season , in which he scored 44 scorer points in a total of 61 games, including 21 goals, the Finn moved to Linköpings HC . With the Swedes he was successful in the Elitserien in the following two years . In the 2005/06 season he reached the playoff semifinals with the LHC, and even the final in the following season . In the playoff final he and his team MODO Hockey lost in the best-of-seven series with 2: 4 wins. For the 2007/08 season the eight-time international returned to his Finnish homeland and signed a contract with Ilves Tampere . There he was able to convince, so that he was committed to the Swedish top club MODO Hockey in the course of the 2008/09 season . After eight games with no points and no penalty for MODO, he ended his career at the end of the season at the age of 30.
International
For Finland Torkki took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2003 . He scored one goal in eight games and prepared another.
