Groupage

As a consolidator is called the transport of goods by freight different senders , the combined into a single shipment and its uniform dispatch by the carrier is effected.

The organization and implementation is carried out by a groupage freight forwarder. This forwarding agent picks up the freight in advance from the individual consignors and brings them to his transshipment warehouse . There they are sorted according to target relations . For each destination relation, these shipments are bundled on a truck and transported in the so-called main run to the receiving carrier . The freight forwarder must be aware of the prohibition of mixed loads - e.g. B. with dangerous goods - pay attention. The freight forwarder can either carry it out himself or hire another freight forwarder (subcontractor) to do it. The deconsolidator concerned with reference to the accompanying documents the caster to the individual recipients.

Freight forwarders and forwarding associations who do not have to load a complete loading unit for a receiving house send the relevant general cargo shipments to the network's own hub . All piece goods are sorted here at night and then collectively sent to the receiving house.

According to German transport law , the freight forwarder is treated like a carrier if the goods are in his care as a groupage ( Section 460 HGB ). This applies in particular to the liability regulations.
