The Gunnar-Wester-Haus in Schweinfurt is a museum in which the Graf Luxburg collection - items used to produce fire and lighting - and the Fritz Glöckle icon collection - Russian icons from the 16th to 19th centuries - are on display. Gunnar Wester was a Swedish consul and chairman of the board of management of SKF Kugellagerfabriken GmbH in Schweinfurt.

The museum is located in the old town , on Martin-Luther-Platz , opposite the Johanniskirche , near the underground car park Graben . The Gunnar-Wester-Haus, south of the church, is part of a cultural quarter that is currently being completely redesigned on the northern side to become the Kulturforum Martin-Luther-Platz . The museums there are therefore currently closed and should be reopened in 2021 with an additional museum.

Collections

Count Luxburg collection

The Graf Luxburg collection is a gift from Friedrich Graf von Luxburg jun. (1871-1956). His cultural-historical collection on the development of fire generation and lighting finds its place here. Starting with a selection of antique oil lamps , the collection contains items used to make fire as well as lamps , lights and lanterns from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Early blasting machines from the Baroque and Biedermeier periods should be emphasized .

Fritz Glöckle icon collection

The Fritz Glöckle icon collection offers an insight into the sacred Russian art of the 16th to 19th centuries in three rooms on the ground floor. Century. 106 exhibits illustrate topics such as the image of the Virgin Mary, depictions of Christ, calendar, feast day and saint icons as well as iconostases .
