Renew ( German  Renew ), also Renew Britain , is the name of a political movement and party in Great Britain founded in mid-2017. Its initiators pursue the goal of lifting Brexit through a second referendum and thus reversing it.

history

Inspired by the successful French movement Emmanuel Macrons , La République en Marche , Renew Britain was launched by former banker Chris Coghlan in 2017 at the height of the Brexit discussions in the UK . Previously, he ran as an independent candidate in the 2017 British general election in the Battersea constituency and won 2.2 percent of the vote.

With the chief strategist James Torrance, the new movement wants to compete in the next general election. Renew wants to offer a home to those voters "who currently feel politically homeless," according to one of the three co-chairmen, James Clarke. Another co-chair is Sandra Khadhouri. After several polls recently identified a reversal of the result of the referendum of 2015, the party founders now hope that the campaign will lead to a change in favor of Great Britain remaining in the EU .

At a press conference on February 19, 2018 in London, Renew announced the recruitment of 222 “future parliamentary election candidates”. The founding declaration of the new group Renew then received wide attention worldwide in all major international media.
