The Samsung QM5 is a sports utility vehicle from the South Korean car manufacturer Renault Samsung Motors . This was launched in December 2006 and has since been offered exclusively in South Korea. After its success there within the first few months, Renault , which is the largest shareholder in Renault Samsung Motors, urged that this model also be offered in other markets under the Renault label and with its own character traits. After almost two years of constant adjustments and changes, Renault launched the model under the name Renault Koleos in Europe and Africa. Samsung, on the other hand, also has plans to rank the QM5 as a direct competitor of the Koleos in Europe. But this project has so far been prevented by Renault again and again. According to Emdunds.com, the QM5 will be offered in North America.

After submitting the Dualis planned by Nissan (also known as Rogue or Qashqai), an independent model under the RSM label (RSM = Renault Samsung Motors) should be offered on the market in South Korea. With this task and the presentation of the Dualis, the technical characteristics were retained and only the design and the engine compartment were changed for the new model. In December 2006 the time had come and the Dualis sister model was able to roll off the production line in a three-month test phase. Initially, a possible success of the QM5 was questioned by the Samsung group management. But already in the first few months the plant received more orders than the maximum capacity allowed. After three months, the delivery time was extended to a whole year. With this success Renault now demanded the introduction of the model to Europe, but under the Renault label and slightly modified design. However, this contradicted Samsung's already completed plans to export the QM5 (QMX = quantum mix) to Europe under the brand name Samsung. After heated discussions and negotiations, the factory management admitted their defeat and had another production line set up for the Renault model. At the same time, RSM presented various concept vehicles and studies at intervals of several months, from which the management of the Renault Group now approved the most suitable for production. After all the necessary work, the first Renault versions rolled off the production line under the name Renault Koleos in December 2007 .
