Renault Samsung Motors (RSM) is a South Korean automobile manufacturer based in Busan . He is the successor to Samsung Motors .
The company is 80.1% owned by Renault and 19.9% by the Samsung Group and is part of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Renault and Samsung have agreed to keep the company's name until 2020. Because of the realignment of the Samsung Group in the automotive market, the South Korean conglomerate sees its own name in a car manufacturer as a hindrance to marketing as an electronics supplier and would like to forego both its own share and the name Samsung in the cooperation.
history
Since 1998, Samsung Motors has been producing the brand's first series-production car based on the Nissan Maxima - the Samsung SM5 - at the newly built plant in Busan . Samsung Motors suffered great losses and had to look for a partner against the backdrop of the Asian crisis . Renault acquired a 70% stake in 2000 and founded Renault Samsung Motors.
