Shinjin Motors

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shinjin Motors ( Korean : 신진 , in German : young , more rarely Sinjin ) was an automobile manufacturer in South Korea . In the 1970s, Shinjin was the leading automobile manufacturer in South Korea.

history

The company was founded as Shinjin Industry in 1955 . It initially dealt with the repair and rebuilding of Jeep models.

In 1965 the car manufacturer Saenara was taken over. Shinjin worked with Toyota from 1966 to 1972; at the same time Shinjin Industry was renamed Shinjin Motors . As part of its expansion plans to China, Toyota was obliged by the CCP to cease operations in South Korea. Therefore, General Motors acquired its 50 percent stake in this company in 1972. This joint venture was named General Motors Korea .

Shinjin motors should not with the Motor Co. Shinjin be confused. In 1974 a joint venture Shinjin Jeep Motors was founded with AMC . This company was renamed Shinjin Motor Co. in 1979 and Geohwa Co. in 1981 . It was merged with Dong-A in 1985, making it one of the forerunners of SsangYong .

Models

After the takeover of Saenara, 322 copies of the Sinsung-ho, a replica of the Datsun Bluebird (310) with a Jeep engine , were initially produced . Then around 100 copies of the Mitsubishi Minica were assembled. The brand's next model was the Shinjin Publica , which was based on the Toyota model of the same name and was manufactured from 1966. In 1966, production of the Shinjin Corona , a small mid-range sedan with a 44 hp engine, also started. In the following year, the manufacturer finally established its first luxury vehicle, the Shinjin Crown , which was discontinued a year later. In 1971, Shinjin Motors started its second attempt to enter this segment with the Shinjin New Crown . But this time the manufacturer did not succeed either.
