Samuel Holzach

Samuel Holzach (* 1536 in Basel ; † 1616 there ) was a Swiss academic.

Life

Samuel Holzach, son of the businessman and politician Onophrion Holzach , studied at the universities of Basel and Bologna and obtained the academic titles Magister artium and Dr. med. In 1576 he was appointed Professor of Eloquence at the University of Basel . In 1589 he took over the professorship of the Greek language. In 1594 he was horrified in office because of poor performance and vicious life, after he had been imprisoned in 1566 for “over-drinking” and blasphemy.
