Samuel Schürmann Berlin

Samuel Schürmann (born October 26, 1979 in Detmold ) is a German singer , actor and musical performer .

Adolescent years

Schürmann grew up in a family of artists, father and mother were opera singers. Since the age of three he has been learning to play the piano at the Osnabrück Conservatory and attending ballet school. At the age of twelve I also have private lessons in harmony, music theory and composition.

As an 18-year-old Samuel Schürmann was on stage for the first time with his own chanson program. a. at the municipal theaters of Osnabrück. He staged and choreographed the musical Sweet Charity for the district music school in Osnabrück . At that time, at 19, he was the youngest lecturer. During his studies he sang under Claudio Abbado in the jazz fair All Rise by and with Wynton Marsalis in the Berliner Philharmonie and under the direction of Wayne Marshall in Bernstein's Mass in the Bremer Glocke.

Professional musician

Samuel learned his trade at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he completed his studies in musical / show with two honors. He is a prizewinner in the National Singing Competition in Berlin and inspires audiences in Germany and Austria in numerous leading musical roles, and again and again with his own programs and plays. Two of his one-person pieces, as well as several concert programs, were premiered in Berlin.

His most beautiful roles in the musical include Albin / Zaza in Jerry Herman's La Cage Aux Folles , the conférencier in Cabaret , Mike Connor in Cole Porter's High Society , Woof in the cult musical Hair , Action and Bernardo in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story , King Herod in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar , Harry Driscoll in the German premiere of the musical Heimatlos , as well as the title role in the world premiere of the musical Der Elefantenmensch .

Schürmann wrote the pieces Goldschmidts Messe (2004) and Halbe Spitze (2007), both premiered at the Neukölln Opera.

In winter 2007 he released his debut CD Sunday with songs by Stephen Sondheim . Schürmann lives and works in Berlin. In 2013 Schürmann was honored with the Kurt Sieder Prize for his portrayal as the travesty star Zaza alias Albin in the musical La Cage aux Folles .
