National Singing Competition Berlin
The National Singing Competition in Berlin was founded in 1966 as a competition for solo singing . It has been advertised annually since 1979, alternating between musical / chanson (in uneven years) and opera / operetta / concert (in even years).
The patron of the competition is the Governing Mayor of Berlin, the organizer is the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin e. V.
The national singing competition promotes young singers for German-speaking stages. Characteristic are high demands on the versatility of the repertoire. Stage representatives and artist agents regularly observe the competition and engage young artists.
Participation requirements
A prerequisite is German citizenship or a German school leaving certificate (from a general school).
Participants between the ages of 17 and 22 can register for the junior competition.
The main competition is open to candidates aged 23 to 28 years (musical / chanson) or 23 to 30 years (opera / operetta / concert). The decisive factor is which year of life is completed in the year of the competition.
procedure
The registration period is from June 1st to September 1st for the competition rounds in autumn of the same year.
Nationwide preselections are carried out in cooperation with music theaters and with the support of the German Stage Association in several cities.
The public finals will take place in Berlin.
After each round of the competition, those who have left the competition have the opportunity to talk to the jury, which is made up of singers, actors, singing teachers, conductors, directors and representatives from the stage and the media.
The final concerts of the competition will be held in the major music theaters in Berlin.
financing
The competition is funded by the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
The governing mayor of Berlin finances the first prizes in the main competition. The Deutsche Bühnenverein, the Berlin opera houses, foundations and private individuals are providing additional prize money. A total of around 50,000 euros will be awarded.
