Daniel Behle

Daniel Behle (* 1974 in Hamburg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ) and composer .

Life

Behle first studied school music , trombone and composition at the Hamburg University of Music . At the age of 22 he took singing lessons from his mother, the dramatic soprano Renate Behle . After completing his trombone studies, he studied five semesters with the American tenor James Wagner . In 2003 Daniel Behle switched to his mother's singing class. In 2004 he completed his composition studies with Peter Michael Hamel and his singing studies with unanimous distinction.

His first engagement was at the State Theater in Oldenburg . After two years he moved to the Volksoper Vienna for the 2005/06 season . Since the 2007/08 season he has been under contract with the Frankfurt Opera for three seasons . He has been working as a freelancer since the 2010/11 season.

With the pianists Sveinung Bjelland and Oliver Schnyder , he gave recitals at important festivals in Europe and released nine solo albums by 2016. In 2017 he made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival , where he played David in Barrie Kosky's new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg . In 2019 he sang Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser in Bayreuth .

Behle has sung at the Vienna State Opera , the Berlin State Opera , the Bavarian State Opera in Munich , the Hamburg State Opera , the Royal Stockholm Opera , the Paris Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève . He sang Mozart's concert arias with the Bavarian Radio Chamber Orchestra and Winterreise in the orchestral version by Hans Zender . His first CD with songs by Franz Schubert , Ludwig van Beethoven , Edvard Grieg , Benjamin Britten and Manfred Trojahn was selected by the Metropolitan Opera as one of the 15 best new releases of 2009.

Behle made guest appearances with the Gürzenich Orchestra , the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne , the Concertgebouw Orchestra , the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn , the Kissinger Sommer , the Capella Augustina in Brühl (Rhineland) and the International Bach Academy Stuttgart . The conductors were Frans Brüggen , James Gaffigan , Andreas Spering , Christoph Spering , Markus Stenz , Jeffrey Tate , Christian Thielemann and Sebastian Weigle .

Daniel Behle lives with his family in Basel .
