Samuel Wülser

Samuel Friedrich Wülser (born October 10, 1897 in Davos , † 1977 in Corteglia ) was a Swiss painter.

Life

Samuel Wülser, son of Samuel Wülser senior and Katharina Schlecht (from Ebersbach an der Fils ) was a painter and member of the Basel artists' association “ Red-Blue ” and “Group Red-Blue”. Wülser came from Aargau, from 1914 to 1917 he attended the arts and crafts school in Aarau. He was a free spirit and anti-fascist all his life and was influenced in his youth by Karl Barth and his spirituality. From 1917 to 1922 he attended the art school in Geneva , where he was influenced by Ferdinand Hodler . He made Corteglia and the Mendrisiotto , which he artistically processed, his adopted home since 1923. There he lived in the "Casa Wülser" property with his sister Berta, who ran his household for him.

Wülser was a great uncle of the German ethnologist Dieter Haller .
