The Roman Catholic parish church of San Francesco d'Assisi (also known as San Francesco for short ) is located in the center of the village of Le Prese , Graubünden ( Switzerland ) in the Puschlav valley ( Val Poschiavo in Italian ), in the diocese of Chur . It is dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi .

history

From the reports of the pastoral visits of the Bishop of Como in the region, it appears that in the 16th century in Le Prese a church dedicated to St. Chapel dedicated to Francis of Assisi with a bell tower with a bell. Around 1670/1680 a baroque style church with three altars and the chaplain’s house, today's rectory, were built. The bell tower that still exists today was built in 1680. In 1853 he was raised to the parish curate . A second bell ( Campanio ) is purchased from the Pruneri die Grosio bell foundry , dedicated to Francis of Assisi. In 1871 the parish was placed under the diocese of Chur .

In 1874 Le Prese was raised to a separate parish with the church of San Francesco, and the hamlet of Cantone is now also part of it. A third bell ( campanone ) from the Pruneri di Grosio foundry was lifted into the tower, which is dedicated to the Madonna del Carmelo . In 1926 a new one was purchased for the old bell ( Mediana ) from the KSA foundry in Aarau . It is dedicated to the Sacred Heart .

In 1939 the baroque church was demolished and today's church was built. The bell tower remained and was renovated. Another extensive restoration took place in 2015, largely financed by the Peter and Paola Baumberger Kapellenstiftung.

building

Outside

The assembled buildings of church, rectory and tower are simple. The rather narrow main entrance door and frame are copper-clad . To the left and right of it are three very narrow arched windows and in front of the door outside there is a granite slab with the Christ monogram IHS embedded in a stylized fish ( ICHTHYS symbol). Above the main entrance there is a facade painting depicting St. Francis of Assisi taming the wolf of Gubbio with the inscription: FRATE LVPO IO TI COMANDO DALLA PARTE DI CHRISTO CHETV NON FACCI MALE NÈ A ME NÈ A PERSONA («Come here, Brother Wolf, in the name of Christ I command you never to do evil, neither to me nor to anyone else. ») With a brother. The tower is not open to the public.

Inside

The interior of the church has a flat wooden beam ceiling made of medium-brown lacquered wood, which extends seamlessly into the choir . The arched windows are equipped with clear glass. The right side of the altar is illuminated by a skylight . The walls are completely plastered white and unadorned. The side altars are kept in the style of the main altar and reduced to the essentials. There is a picture above each side altar and a crucifix in the middle of the choir . The choir with the popular altar is spatially separated from the nave by four steps. The pews are made of light wood. The lighting fixtures that hang from the ceiling on ropes are simple standard glass fixtures.

In 1969 an organ in a medium brown wooden case with carvings on the gallery was installed by Mathis Orgelbau (Näfels), with 13 registers on two manuals and a pedal .
