The San Francisco Delta were an American football - franchise from San Francisco . It was founded in 2016 and took part in gaming for the first time in 2017. The San Francisco Deltas played in the second-rate North American Soccer League and played their home games at Kezar Stadium .

history

In contrast to club football, which is common in Europe, professional football is organized in sports franchises like many other sports in North America and is therefore more comparable to companies than to clubs . They are founded by owners and, upon request, included in a corresponding professional league. A Promotion and relegation do not exist.

The San Francisco Deltas belong to a group of investors made up of companies in Silicon Valley and other investors, who mainly come from Brazil . The franchise is run by CEO Brian Andrés Helmick . The corporate structure is borrowed from successful start-ups in Silicon Valley. The part of the name Delta is intended to indicate changes and innovations.

The franchise was founded in 2016 and a place in the North American Soccer League (NASL) was granted for the 2017 season.

On March 25, 2017, the team played the first game in franchise history. The game against Indy Eleven ended in a 1-1 draw, the first goal in club history scored Kyle Bekker .

On November 12, 2017, the Deltas won the NASL Championship with a 2-0 win over New York Cosmos.

After the debut season 2017 and the victory of the NASL Championship (NASL Championship), the club was dissolved on November 24, 2017 with immediate effect. The reason given for this was doubts about the future viability of the team and repeated uncertainties that the US Football Association would force upon the NASL.
