San Giovanni Crisostomo a Monte Sacro Alto (Latin: Sancti Ioannis Chrysostomi in regione vulgo “Monte Sacro Alto” ) is a titular church in Rome .

overview

The parish was founded on January 5th, 1964 with the decree Quo aptius by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara . The church, built according to a design by the architects Ennio Canino and Viviana Rizzi , was consecrated on February 16, 1969 . On April 26, 1969, the elevation to the title church of the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Paul VI took place. The namesake is Saint John Chrysostom , a fourth century preacher.

The modern church building is covered by a raised, slightly inclined flat roof. A canopy welcomes visitors in the entrance area. The interior is simply materialized from concrete and stained glass windows. Two icons, one for John Chrysostom and one for the baptism of Jesus by the artist Mauro Magni, can be seen near the baptismal font. The stained glass windows in the chancel show different moments of the biblical creation. In the choir, reference is made to the creation of man with an artistic representation; the underside of the roof is reminiscent of Michelangelo's Sistine. The church has two side chapels.

The church is located on Via Emilio De Marchi 60 , which runs towards Via Nomentana , in the Roman quarter of Monte Sacro Alto .
