San Giuseppe dei Teatini
The Basilica of San Giuseppe dei Teatini is a church in Palermo . It is located on Via Maqueda opposite Piazza Pretoria and extends to the south side of the Quattro Canti , where a baroque palace facade is overlaid.
The church was designed by Giacomo Besio , a member of the Theatine Order and built between 1612 and 1645.
The three naves of the church of the basilica are separated from each other by columns made of Billiemi marble . The church is adorned with frescoes (including by Wilhelm Borremans ), paintings (including by Pietro Novelli ), stucco work (including by Giuseppe Serpotta ) and sculptures (including by Ignazio Marabitti ). In the 18th century the church was given a dome by Giuseppe Mariani , which is covered with colored ceramics.
Below the church is the church of Santa Maria della Provvidenza , the crypt of San Giuseppe dei Teatini.
