San Ignacio is a city with about 4,500 inhabitants in the south of the Mexican state of Sinaloa and the administrative seat of the Municipio San Ignacio . The city is also known as San Ignacio de Piaxtla . It is at an altitude of 151 meters.

history

San Ignacio was founded in 1633 by the Jesuit father Diego González Cueto.

Others

The city is located in the area of ​​the Sinaloa cartel, one of the most powerful drug cartels in Mexico. In 2014, twelve bodies were found in an off-road vehicle in San Ignacio. The victims showed signs of torture and burns, reported the newspaper El Debate .
