San José de Guaribe is a district ( municipality ) in the state of Guárico in the Llanos of Venezuela .
The municipality has a population of about 149,313 inhabitants on an area of 835 km². The main office is in San José de Guaribe .

The district is mostly mountainous, with some plains. The average altitude is 225 meters above sea level.
The Guaribe River arises from the fork of the Guaribito and Guaribote Rivers. The Guaribe flows into the Unare River, which in turn flows into the Caribbean.
