Sancha of Aragon
Sancha of Aragon or Sancha of Aragon (also Sanchia , * around 1478 in Naples , † 1506 in Naples) was an illegitimate daughter of King Alfonso II of Naples . Her mother was Trusia Gazullo (or Truzia Gazella), who was a mistress of the king.
In 1492 Sancha got engaged to Onorato Caetani, but the engagement was dissolved again. In May 1494 she married Jofré Borgia , a son of Pope Alexander VI. It is said that it was not a happy marriage, because Sancha did not care about Jofré, who was four years younger. This was probably one of the reasons why she had many lovers, including Jofré's brothers Juan and Cesare Borgia .
Sancha's younger brother Alfonso von Aragon (also called Alfonso von Bisceglie) married her sister-in-law Lucrezia Borgia four years later . Sancha had a very close relationship with her brother and his wife Lucrezia. After the murder of her brother by Micheletto, who served Cesare Borgia as chief officer, Lucrezia married Alfonso I d'Este and had to leave her son with Sancha. Sancha was very fond of little Rodrigo and took him after the death of Alexander VI. with to Naples.
Sancha of Aragon died in Naples in 1506 after a long illness. She remained childless.
