Sandim is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northwest Portugal .

Sandim belongs to the Vila Nova de Gaia county in the Porto district . The community had an area of ​​13.6 km² and 5957 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). On July 20, 2001, the place was (again ) elevated to Vila (German:  small town ).

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Sandim, Olival , Lever and Crestuma were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Sandim, Olival, Lever e Crestuma . Sandim is the seat of this newly formed community.
