Sandra Destradi

Sandra Destradi is a German political scientist and university professor.

Life

From 2000 to 2005 she studied international and diplomatic sciences with a focus on international and diplomatic relations at the universities of Trieste and Vienna . From 2006 to 2009 she was a doctoral candidate at the University of Hamburg and at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies as a doctoral scholarship holder of the Cusanuswerk . From October to December 2008 and February to May 2009 she did research in New Delhi as a visiting doctoral student at the Institute of Social Sciences. From November 2009 to September 2014 she was a Research Fellow at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies at the Institute for Asian Studies. After receiving her doctorate (Dr. phil.) At the University of Hamburg in December 2010, she headed the project When Mediations Fail: A pilot study of the effects of failed mediation on the escalation of civil wars by the German Peace Research Foundation . From 2013 to 2014, together with Joachim Betz, she led the project New Challenges and Partnerships in the Age of Multipolarity: Establishing a bilateral partnership with the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyzes and the German Research Foundation . As a visiting scholar, she conducted research at the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyzes in October and November 2013 . From September 2014 to August 2015 she was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Florence . Since September 2014 she has been a Senior Research Fellow at the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies (on leave in the academic year 2014/2015 and since October 2015). From October 2015 to November 2016 she represented the professorship at the Helmut Schmidt University Political Science, in particular International Relations and Regional Governance , which she took over as Professor (W3) in December 2016 . Since January 2017 she has been head of the research focus 4 Power and Ideas at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies.
