Sandrine Dixson-Declève

Sandrine Dixson-Declève is a Belgian expert on energy policy and has been Co-President of the Club of Rome with Mamphela Ramphele since 2018 .

Life

Dixson-Declève received her BA in International Relations and French from the University of California, Davis . She then obtained an MSc in environmental science from the Université libre de Bruxelles . She has worked as an advisor to Members of the European Parliament , Presidents of the European Commission and governments on several continents.

From 2009 to 2016 she headed the EU office at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership , which was founded in 1989 at the University of Cambridge and offers postgraduate courses in sustainability . She also served as director of the Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group , in which well-known multinational corporations such as Coca-Cola , Royal Dutch Shell , Tesco , Unilever and United Technologies, as well as Heathrow Airport , committed themselves to sustainability. Shell's exit in 2015, after Shell's plans for offshore oil production in the Arctic and support for the emissions-friendly lobby group American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) became known. Another of her tasks was the function as Executive Director of the Green Growth Platform, a discourse platform on environmental issues in which high-ranking politicians and business leaders participated. She was Chief Partnership Officer in the UN initiative Sustainable Energy for All , which was launched by the then UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon . In 2015, the environmental platform GreenBiz included her in the group of the 30 most influential women who “drive a low-carbon economy and promote environmentally conscious business” worldwide.

In 2018, Sandrine Dixson-Declève and the South African doctor and politician Mamphela Ramphele were elected equal presidents at the 50th anniversary of the Club of Rome . The two women represent a generation and gender change in this institution. For the first time in its history, two women were entrusted to lead the organization. One of the first tasks of the new presidents will be to present a climate emergency plan.
