Sandro Mazzinghi (born October 3, 1938 in Pontedera ; † August 22, 2020 ibid) was an Italian light middleweight boxer and world champion according to the version of the WBC and WBA , as well as European champion.

Life

Mazzinghi was admitted to Lotti di Pontedera hospital in August 2020 for ischemia . He died there around 10 days later on August 22, 2020.

Career

After the first 16 victories in the professional career, Sandro Mazzinghi faced Giampaolo Melis . Mazzinghi lost on points. On September 7, 1963 Mazzinghi fights against Ralph Dupas for the WBC and WBA world championships in light middleweight. Sandro won the fight by technical knockout in the ninth round, as well as the direct rematch also by technical knockout in round 13. After 3 successful title defenses and 8 victories in non-title fights, Mazzinghi fought on June 18, 1965 against Nino Benvenuti . Benvenuti won this fight by knockout in the sixth round. Mazzinghi lost the rematch on points.
