Sandviken (Gotland)

Sandviken

Sandviken is a bay, nature reserve and Natura 2000 area on the Swedish island of Gotland , which lies between Sysneudd and Gryngudd south of Katthammarsvik .

The nature reserve includes a 600 m long and 150 m wide bathing beach and an area in the water in front of the beach. Near the sea, the sand forms an approximately 20 m wide wall of low dunes. Beach rye , reed fescue and common couch grass and the Tatar lettuce ( mulgedium tataricum , Swedish sandsallat ), which later immigrated to Gotland, dominate the vegetation. Within the dunes there is a 40-80 m wide strip of sandgrass heather ( Swedish sandgräshed ), which includes sand thyme , real bedstraw , hare clover , large rattling pot and beach plantain as well as individual plants of heather juniper and small groups is overgrown by Scots pine .
