The Sannäsfjord ( Swedish Sannäsfjorden ) is a bay in the municipality of Tanum in the north of the historic Bohuslän province .
The village of Sannäs is located on the east bank. In the estuary is the island of Havsten. The Sannäsfjord is bounded in the north by the Klättah peninsula and in the south by the Havstenssund peninsula.
The Sannäsfjord was first mentioned in the Norwegian royal legends as the Sämsfjord . It kept this name when the area became Swedish in 1658 . As the settlement of Sannäs got bigger, the name changed to Sannäsfjord.
At the beginning of the 20th century there were plans to build a canal from the inner part of the bay towards the south through the Havstenssund peninsula near Edsvik so that shipping would not have to use the dangerous waters outside of Tjurpannan in bad weather.
nature
There is great biodiversity in the Sannäsfjord due to the unspoiled nature and currents in the Skagerrak , which carry salty and fresh water. At the same time, the influence of brackish water from the Baltic Sea and contaminated river water from Norway is very small by Swedish standards. The waters that flow into the Sannäsfjord are also relatively free of pollution. There are large areas of common seagrass in the area , which are extremely important for marine life as feeding and rearing areas for cod , plaice and eels . There is a large oyster population and lobster waters are still rich in the outer part . The Sannäsfjord is part of a Natura 2000 reserve in Bohuslän's archipelago .
