Sanna Margit Valkonen (born December 12, 1977 ) is a former Finnish soccer player . The defender was most recently under contract with the Swedish club KIF Örebro and played for the Finnish national team . Valkonen ended her active career in October 2010.

Valkonen began her career at the Hyvinkää PS club . In 1994 she became Finnish champion with KontU Helsinki and then moved to PuiU Helsinki . With PuiU she won the Finnish Cup in 1996. In 1997 she played for Malmin PS and won the cup competition again. Between 1998 and 2002 Valkonen played for HJK Helsinki and won the championship and the cup four times. In 2001 and 2002 she was elected Footballer of the Year in Finland. After a brief stint with the Boston Renegades , she moved to the Swedish club Umeå IK , where she won the championship, the trophy and the UEFA Women's Cup twice until 2005 . After two years at AIK Solna , she played for KIF Örebro since 2007.

On August 30, 1995 Valkonen played against Sweden for the first time for the Finnish national team. She took part in the European Championship in 2005 , where she reached the semi-finals with the Finnish selection and lost 4-1 to Germany .

On March 9, 2009, she outbid Anne Mäkinen's record with her 114th international match against China at the Algarve Cup in Portugal and increased it to 120 games at the European Championships in her own country by August 26 . At the Algarve Cup 2010 she was not used, so Laura Österberg Kalmari was able to beat her record on February 26, 2010 and increase it to 122 games. Valkonen has scored seven goals so far.
