The Santa Margarida volcano , in Catalan Volcà de Santa Margarida , is an extinct volcano in the northeast of Catalonia ( Spain ). It is located between Olot and Santa Pau and is a popular destination as part of the Garrotxa Volcanoes Nature Reserve . Its last eruption was about 11,000 years ago.
The volcano with a height of 682 meters is covered with forest (including sweet chestnuts , pines and oaks ). At the top there is a circular volcanic crater with a diameter of about 300 meters.
The Romanesque church of Santa Margarida is the only building in the crater . On the northern rim of the crater there is a restaurant that can be reached via the Camí del Volcà de Santa Margarida.
