Santa Maria Consolatrice al Tiburtino (Latin: Sanctae Mariae Consolatricis in regione Tiburtina ) is a Roman parish and titular church in the Tiburtino district . The main entrance is to Piazza Santa Maria Consolatrice. It is consecrated to Saint Mary , the Comforter of the afflicted .

history

The area around the church was undeveloped until around 1920. Because of the proximity to several railway lines, railway workers settled here. The area belonged to the parish of San Lorenzo fuori le mura . The parish church was difficult to get to because of the railway lines. The Capuchins , who provided pastoral care there, therefore built a chapel called Madonna Consolata. They made a copy of the representation of Our Lady, which is venerated in La Consolata in Turin.

In 1942 they started to build a proper parish church. The construction took place at the time of the Second World War under the direction of the architect Tullio Rossi . In a bomb attack in March 1944, the urban area of Casal Bertone, San Lorenzo and the construction site were destroyed. This delayed the completion of the church until 1945.

On July 14, 1945, the church was consecrated and the parish was founded. Pastoral care was given to the diocesan clergy .

In 1964 the apse mosaic was created.

On April 29, 1969, the elevation to the title church of the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Paul VI followed.
