Philippe Ouédraogo
Philippe Nakellentuba Cardinal Ouédraogo (born January 25, 1945 in Konéan , Burkina Faso ) is Archbishop of Ouagadougou and President of the Symposium of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar .
Life
Philippe Ouédraogo received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Kaya on July 14, 1973 . From 1973 to 1978 he was vicar of the cathedral there before he went to Rome to continue his studies. In 1983 Ouédraogo returned to Kaya. From 1989 to 1994 he was vicar general of the diocese of Kaya.
On July 5, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ouahigouya . The Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Jean-Marie Untaani Compaoré , donated him episcopal ordination on November 23 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Limoges , Léon Soulier , and the Bishop Emeritus of Kaya, Constantin Guirma . From 2001 to 2007 he was President of the Bishops' Conferences of Burkina Faso and Niger. On May 13, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Ouagadougou. The inauguration took place on June 13 of the same year.
In the solemn consistory of February 22, 2014, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Consolatrice al Tiburtino in the college of cardinals .
Philippe Ouédraogo was treated in April 2020 after a positive test for COVID-19 in the hospital in Ouagadougou and was discharged as healthy.
