The Archdiocese of Ouagadougou ( Latin Archidioecesis Uagaduguensis , French Archidiocèse de Ouagadougou ) is an archdiocese in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta ) in West Africa . The suffragan dioceses of Koudougou , Manga and Ouahigouya belong to the ecclesiastical province of the same name . The seat of the archbishopric is Ouagadougou , the capital of the state of Burkina Faso.

history

Pope Benedict XV divided with the Breve Ex officio supremi on July 2, 1921 the Apostolic Vicariate French Sudan into the two Vicariates Bamako and Ouagadougou. On September 14, 1955, the Vicariate was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou.
