The Diocese of Nouna ( Latin Dioecesis Nunensis , French Diocèse de Nouna ) is in Burkina Faso situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Nouna . It covers the eastern part of the Boucle du Mouhoun region .

history

Pope Pius XII founded the Apostolic Prefecture Nouna with the Apostolic Constitution Ad evangelizationis on June 12, 1947 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Prefecture Gao . She was promoted to Vicariate Apostolic in October 1951 .

With the bull Dum tantis it was raised to the diocese on November 15, 1966, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou as a suffragan diocese. On April 10, 1962, it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Mission sui juris San .

With the Decree Apostolicis of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples on December 3rd, 1975, the Cathedra was moved from Nouna to Dédougou because of the greater importance of this city and took the name Nouna-Dédougou. The Sainte Anne church became the cathedral of the diocese and the Cathédrale Notre Dame du Perpétuel Sécours became the co-cathedral.

With the Apostolic Constitution Grave Successoris Petri of April 14, 2000, John Paul II divided the diocese of Nouna-Dédougou into today's diocese of Nouna and the newly established diocese of Dédougou and subordinated both of them to the Archdiocese of Bobo-Dioulasso as suffragans.
